The Lion: Cortisol & The Nervous System
Mar 04, 2026
Part of the Series "In Like a Lion. Out Like a Lamb."
March roars in.
So does stress.
Cortisol is your body’s alarm system.
When the alarm never shuts off, you don’t feel powerful. You can be left feeling feel wired, exhausted, reactive, and avoiding any sexual activity.
Having every meeting, text, request at our finger tips has not made life easier for us. You do not get a break like in the 80's when you had to wait until you got home to take the phone call or listen to the answering machine. No call waiting. No on demand requests while sitting in a meeting, planning dinner, getting exercise in, being their for friends and family. The to do list can make us too done.
High cortisol keeps your nervous system in fight-or-flight. Sleep becomes lighter.
Patience shortens.
Joy feels harder to access.
Sensual Nervous System Tie-In:
A regulated woman can receive.
She can soften into touch, pleasure, and connection.
An exhausted nervous system cannot.
Trauma hips of course!
Journal Prompts:
- Where am I living in quiet fight-or-flight?
- What would safety feel like in my body?
- What would softening look like this week
