What Would You Choose Without The Guilt? - Week 4: Meet Her Again, Saying Should Bye™
Sep 23, 2026
Meet Her Again
She isn’t who she was before motherhood, marriage, grief, divorce, caregiving, or the last child left home. She doesn’t need to become someone new—she needs to reconnect with the woman she is today.
Imagine you have an afternoon with nowhere you have to be.
Nobody needs a ride.
There are no appointments, meetings or urgent errands.
What would you do?
Would you take a nap?
Wander through your favorite store?
Sit outside with a book?
Meet a friend for a drink?
Stay home and enjoy the fact that nobody is talking to you?
Now notice whether guilt entered the picture before you even finished imagining it.
I should use the time to clean.
I should get ahead on work.
I should do something with the kids.
I should be productive.
Many women can identify what everyone around them needs within seconds. Ask those same women what they want, and the answer becomes much harder.
It isn’t always because they don’t know. Sometimes they know exactly what they want and don’t believe they have a good enough reason to choose it.
Wanting it doesn’t feel sufficient.
There should be a purpose.
Someone else should benefit.
The house should be clean first.
Everyone should be happy with the decision.
That is how guilt keeps moving the finish line.
You tell yourself you can rest after everything is done, knowing that everything is never done. You can buy clothes after your body changes. You can travel when life calms down. You can make yourself a priority once nobody else needs you quite so much.
Then another month passes.
Choosing something for yourself doesn’t mean you have stopped loving your family. It doesn’t erase your responsibilities. It gives you a chance to experience your own life while you are busy helping everyone else live theirs.
This week, ask yourself:
What do I want?
Let the answer come before you start explaining why you can’t have it.
Maybe the whole answer isn’t possible today. Look for the smallest honest version of it.
If you want a week away, perhaps you begin with an afternoon to yourself.
If you want more adventure, try a place you haven’t been.
If you want to feel connected to your body, choose something that feels good instead of something designed to punish it.
You don’t have to earn every enjoyable moment through exhaustion.
The woman you are meeting has wants of her own. Let her choose something.
Then see what happens when you allow yourself to enjoy it without shoulding all over the experience.
